Snap Action: No UCG at Leigh Creek

Alert from Conservation SA

Tuesday September 18, 2018, 9am
SUPREME COURT OF SA
1 GOUGER ST, ADELAIDE, SA

Government plans for an Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) plant at Leigh Creek.

“We’re very concerned because people live in that area and it’s time for healing of the site, not any more destruction. Leigh Creek is the basis for our law this must be stopped.”
Vince Couthard, Adnyamathnha Traditional Lands Association.

Local community say NO WAY and, with people around the state, are urging the Marshall Government to dump plans for UCG at Leigh Creek and ban this risky and extreme technology.

UCG was banned in Qld after it caused the biggest pollution disaster in that state’s history.
If it’s banned in Qld, why is it coming to SA?!

On Tuesday September 18, 2018, Adnyamathanha Traditional Owners are seeking an injunction on the UCG trial on their lands at Leigh Creek.

Can’t make the snap action? It only takes a few minutes to call Mining Minister Dan Van Holst Pellekaan on 08 8642 3633.
Urgent action is required to bring this dirty plan to a halt!

Show your support and take a stand against dirty and unwanted gas projects in our state.

Hands Across the Sand: Semaphore, May 19

Let’s join together at Semaphore beach, to celebrate our coasts and oceans and send a message to say no to risky and dirty deep sea drilling in the Great Australian Bight and yes to a clean energy future.

Our climate is being pushed beyond it’s bounds – it’s up to us to stand together and demonstrate that a safe and healthy environmental future is the only outcome we will settle for.

You can help us to create a symbolic barrier along the shore to call for the protection of the unique and pristine Great Australian Bight.

The Foreign Donations Bill is broken. Time to start again

April 9th, 2018: The Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters (JSCEM) Committee which has been running the Inquiry into the Electoral Legislation Amendment (Electoral Funding and Disclosure Reform) Bill 2017 has released its report late this afternoon. The Committee has released a Majority Report (written by government and ALP members) and a Minority Report (dissenting report) from the Australian Greens.

“This is a significant step back by the government members of this Committee from the extreme measures proposed in the original Bill” said Friends of the Earth campaigns co-ordinator Cam Walker. “The original Bill was clearly ideological over-reach, and the Committee members had the common sense to recognise this”.

Stop Adani Day of Action – SA – Sat 7 Oct

Join AYCC and CLEAN and 350.org

On October 7th, Australia will see the BIGGEST ever Day of Action to#StopAdani! The federal government is currently considering giving a $1billion loan of taxpayer money to the Adani company’s dangerous coal mine. This project would destroy the Great Barrier Reef and wreck the climate, and does not have the consent of the Wangan & Jagalingou people, the traditional owners of the land.

In Adelaide, we’re hosting a community gathering where South Australians will come together to publicly show that we want the government to step up and rule out funding Adani.
We will meet on Henley beach, where students and community members will have created a stunning art installation, bringing the Great Barrier Reef rightto our own shores. This family friendly event will involve face-painting, kites and an opportunity to show the media how much the Australian community wants to #StopAdani

WHO: Everyone fired up to #StopAdani – no matter where you’re from!

WHAT: Art installation, face-painting, kites, a huge media photo opportunity

BRING: Friends, family, signs, sun protection

WEAR: Red – the #StopAdani colour!

WHEN: Saturday 7th October, 12-1pm

WHERE: Henley Beach Jetty, Seaview Rd, Henley Beach SA, 5022 (we will meet near the jetty- look for red shirts and stop adani signs!)
