Invitation from PACOA: Port Adelaide Community Opposing AUKUS

International Day of Peace 20 Sep | Day of Action at Port Adelaide

Join South Australians in Port Adelaide to show our opposition to US and Australian government war preparations, and to celebrate the growing people’s movement for peace and friendship across our region and beyond.  

It will be a cultural extravaganza featuring:

  • the Giant Green Submarine inflatable by PAAF
  • two community choirs
  • XRSA Street theatre
  • Public Art Peaceboats
  • Fiddle We Must band
  • the arrival of the Peace Walkers Against AUKUS, completing their remarkable 400 km walk from Port Augusta

Events will commence at the Workers Memorial, Port Adelaide (corner of Commercial Rd and St Vincent’s St) at 1pm sharp. 

Speakers will include Karina Lester from the AUKUS Public Inquiry, MLC Melanie Selwood, AFOPA’s Mike Khizam, Professor Al Rainnie, local Port Adelaide legend Sandra Dann, Campbell Duignan from the MUA, and CFMEU organiser Allen Harris (retired). The event will be MC’d by Eileen Darley.

Come along, bring friends and family, and be part of a colourful community gathering for peace.

Stop Adani Day of Action – SA – Sat 7 Oct

On October 7th, Australia will see the BIGGEST ever Day of Action to#StopAdani! The federal government is currently considering giving a $1billion loan of taxpayer money to the Adani company’s dangerous coal mine. This project would destroy the Great Barrier Reef and wreck the climate, and does not have the consent of the Wangan & Jagalingou people, the traditional owners of the land.

In Adelaide, we’re hosting a community gathering where South Australians will come together to publicly show that we want the government to step up and rule out funding Adani.
We will meet on Henley beach, where students and community members will have created a stunning art installation, bringing the Great Barrier Reef rightto our own shores. This family friendly event will involve face-painting, kites and an opportunity to show the media how much the Australian community wants to #StopAdani

WHO: Everyone fired up to #StopAdani – no matter where you’re from!

WHAT: Art installation, face-painting, kites, a huge media photo opportunity

BRING: Friends, family, signs, sun protection

WEAR: Red – the #StopAdani colour!

WHEN: Saturday 7th October, 12-1pm

WHERE: Henley Beach Jetty, Seaview Rd, Henley Beach SA, 5022 (we will meet near the jetty- look for red shirts and stop adani signs!)

20 years of community resistance against nuclear waste Sat Aug 19

Dear nuclear-free friends,

You are invited to an event not to be missed!

‘We Say No!’ Saturday August 19, 2017 at 2pm
Waterside Workers Hall, Port Adelaide

Join us for courageous and inspiring stories of and from people on the front line, learn the history of community resistance and how together we can keep our state free from nuclear waste.

Local and interstate speakers will include:

  • Kylie Sambo, Muckaty campaign
  • Karina Lester, international waste dump campaign
  • The McKenzie sisters, national waste dump campaign
  • Nina Brown, Irati Wanti campaign

and speakers from the Kimba region.

Also on show will be some new and historical footage, highlights from the Talking Straight Out exhibition, and useful info to help us win this current fight.

Afterwards, please join us for a BBQ and some music in honour of the late Yami Lester.

Hiroshima Day vigil Sun Aug 6

July 23, 2017

Join the Australian Red Cross SA IHL Collective to mark the 72nd anniversary of the detonation of an atomic bomb over Hiroshima, Japan. We invite the community to come together to remember the victims of this attack and to highlight the devastating humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons.

After the recent historic adoption of Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons Treaty, add your message of hope for a world free of nuclear weapons to our paper crane and lantern peace sign; listen to guest speakers and performers as we reflect on the need to continue to fight for an end to nuclear weapons.
