Stop Adani Day of Action – SA – Sat 7 Oct

Join AYCC and CLEAN and 350.org

On October 7th, Australia will see the BIGGEST ever Day of Action to#StopAdani! The federal government is currently considering giving a $1billion loan of taxpayer money to the Adani company’s dangerous coal mine. This project would destroy the Great Barrier Reef and wreck the climate, and does not have the consent of the Wangan & Jagalingou people, the traditional owners of the land.

In Adelaide, we’re hosting a community gathering where South Australians will come together to publicly show that we want the government to step up and rule out funding Adani.
We will meet on Henley beach, where students and community members will have created a stunning art installation, bringing the Great Barrier Reef rightto our own shores. This family friendly event will involve face-painting, kites and an opportunity to show the media how much the Australian community wants to #StopAdani

WHO: Everyone fired up to #StopAdani – no matter where you’re from!

WHAT: Art installation, face-painting, kites, a huge media photo opportunity

BRING: Friends, family, signs, sun protection

WEAR: Red – the #StopAdani colour!

WHEN: Saturday 7th October, 12-1pm

WHERE: Henley Beach Jetty, Seaview Rd, Henley Beach SA, 5022 (we will meet near the jetty- look for red shirts and stop adani signs!)

SA votes: Solar Thermal or Gas? Add your voice

The Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC) are running a campaign to let SA Premier Jay Weatherill know that South Australians want additional power to be supplied by solar thermal with molten salt storage in Pt Augusta, not more polluting gas. Mr Weatherill is likely to make his decision by June 2017 so its important to let him know your wishes right now.

Please vote for solar thermal at the link and share with your friends, family and colleagues.

Report into development of an unconventional gas industry in S-E SA

The Natural Resources Committee has released its final report into develepment of an unconventional gas industry in the South East of SA (around Mt Gambier).

From the government Media Release: media-release-nrc-fracking-report-tabled-291116-1

“After review of all evidence and additional research, the committee has reached the positon that social licence does not yet exist for the development of an unconventional gas industry in the South East,” said Ms Steph Key (ALP member for Ashford). “This has been made starkly apparent by widespread opposition from the local community and it is the overarching finding of the inquiry.”

“This is not to say unconventional gas exploration and development should never occur in the region, but that in the committee’s view, obtaining social licence is a necessary precondition to such development occurring,” Ms Key said.

“Throughout the inquiry, all evidence the committee heard, both for and against unconventional gas development, has been in the context of myriad external forces including climate change considerations, production and export price, export demand, technological advances, renewable energy growth, and very notably, public opinion,” said Ms Key.
