Important: Talk to your MP about nuclear waste dumps

One of the most important things you can do to prevent nuclear waste dumps in SA is to talk to your MP. MPs are saying their constituents are not contacting them opposing the dump proposals and silence is either seen as consent, or that its not a big issue for constituents.

You don’t need to be an expert, just talk to your MP about your own perspective and speak from the heart. Its a good idea to ask them for their position and opinion and which way they would vote. Its particularly important to speak up about the international dump during October and November.

State MPs

Talk to them about your opposition to SA becoming the world’s nuclear waste dump. Let them know your environmental concerns, worker and public safety concerns, future generations, lack of respect for Traditional Owners and transport and terrorism risks. Tell them you want to keep the legislation that currently bans nuclear waste dumps.

Federal MPs

Talk to them about the federal government’s plan to put a waste dump at Wallerbedina, near Barndioota, near Hawker in the Flinders Ranges.
Talk to them about the need to keep federal legislation that bans the establishment of nuclear waste dumps in Australia. Ask them how they would vote if a bill to change the legislation was introduced.
If your MP is Labor, ask them to keep strong to the Labor platform of banning nuclear waste dumps and ask them how they would vote if a proposal to overturn the ban were introduced.

Camp out on Adnyamathanha country – no nuclear waste dump 7-9 Oct

Come and meet the ancient land. Experience Adnyamathanha culture: past and present, for a nuclear free future.
Sleep under the stars, hear the stories and support the campaign to say no to a radioactive waste dump on Adnyamathanha land at Barndioota / Wallerberdina.

Detailed directions will be provided, and signs will guide the way.

We’ll do big meat and vegan cook-ups for Friday and Saturday night dinners, and lunch on Saturday all together. Please bring your own breakfast and snack food.
There will be one cooking fire and another hang-out fire.
Please bring your own swag/tent, torch, sun protection, fly protection, water (we’ll supply some but stay on the safe side and bring extra). More info will be coming soon to your email inbox.

Please respect camp protocol, which will be explained on site. This event is drug and alcohol free.

Saturday October 15, 2016 marks 63 years since the first atomic bomb test at Emu Junction in South Australia.

The Federal Government is pursuing plans to build a national waste dump in the Flinders Ranges while a proposal for South Australia to take the worlds international high level nuclear waste continues to be progressed by the SA state government.

Communities across the state are saying ‘no way’.

We can do better than to take the worlds worst waste’.

Nuclear exhibition at Tandanya

Exposing the legacies of the atomic age through creative arts.

Involving more than 50 creative artists – photographers, filmmakers, digital artists, painters, sculptors and writers – this showcase presents the stories of atomic survivors, those Indigenous communities, service personnel and civilian workers who have been directly affected by atomic testing. It presents discoveries about the nuclear age, and fits within a long tradition of artists and communities responding to ‘the bomb’.

A centrepiece is ‘Ngurini’ (Searching), an immersive digital projection made with members of the Yalata Anangu community. Another is ’10 Minutes to Midnight’ also for immersive screening in our large cylindrical arena, and developed with nuclear veterans and the Balaklava community.

These digital art works are accompanied by exhibitions of photography and sculpture, feature seminars, film screenings, and storyteller sessions by Australian and international artists.
