On October 7th, Australia will see the BIGGEST ever Day of Action to#StopAdani! The federal government is currently considering giving a $1billion loan of taxpayer money to the Adani company’s dangerous coal mine. This project would destroy the Great Barrier Reef and wreck the climate, and does not have the consent of the Wangan & Jagalingou people, the traditional owners of the land.
In Adelaide, we’re hosting a community gathering where South Australians will come together to publicly show that we want the government to step up and rule out funding Adani.
We will meet on Henley beach, where students and community members will have created a stunning art installation, bringing the Great Barrier Reef rightto our own shores. This family friendly event will involve face-painting, kites and an opportunity to show the media how much the Australian community wants to #StopAdani

Increased compliance obligations for charities target environmental advocacy organisations
The long campaign against the environment movement
As the environment and climate movements grow in power and influence, various conservative and anti-environmental forces have sought to damage or reduce the power of the movement.
The campaign against environmental protectors reached something of a fever pitch while Tony Abbott was the Australian Prime Minister, and has become less overt since Malcolm Turnbull became PM. But it is now clear that the agenda continues, with a new ‘review’ of tax arrangements for non-government organisations (NGOs) singling out environmental organisations for particular scrutiny.
Last Thursday evening at the Conservation Council of SA AGM we heard from Dr Peter Burdon and Dr Sylvia Villios speak about changes to the charity (DGR) status of environmental NGOs. They spoke about the recent treasury discussion paper, describing the proposed changes. Submissions have now closed, but none of the proposed changes have been passed into law. There is still an opportunity to influence this process by contacting the Federal Minister for the Environment, Greg Hunt or the Assistant Minister to the Treasurer, Michael Sukkar.

Alexander Hayes & Magali McDuffie from Ngikalikarra Media are bringing the ‘Protecting Country’ 35 minute documentary film to the Joinery, 111 Franklin St, Adelaide SA 5000. The film features many well known Aboriginal Elders and leaders from South Australia who provide their account of how important it is for all Australian’s to protect country from past, present and planned uranium mining and nuclear dump activities.

National nuclear strategy meeting in Melbourne 10-11 February
All campaigners are welcome to attend the national nuclear strategy meeting in Melbourne on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 February.
South Australian representatives are attending including Adnyamathanha women campaigning against the national nuclear waste dump proposal for the Flinders Ranges. Friends of the Earth Adelaide have contributed to the travel expenses of one of the women.
The meeting will cover campaigning around all aspects of the nuclear chain and nuclear weapons proliferation, with a focus on future actions.
