SA Labor against Nuclear dump in SA

Motion / resolution passed unanimously by the Australian Labor Party SA Branch, State Convention 2017
13 October 2017
Motion 22. MUA
Federal Nuclear Waste Dump
SA Labor congratulates the Weatherill government for acknowledging the Citizens Jury outcome to reject the establishment of the nuclear dump, which reflected a majority of the state’s residents, some two thirds of Jury participants. The Weatherill Government is to be commended for acknowledging the community, social and environmental concerns.
Recommendation
SA Labor calls on the State Government to oppose any future proposal for a South Australian nuclear dump and storage site. lt is recognised that the Federal Government is indicating they will advocate for a nuclear waste dump in our state. The SA Labor Government and Party will publicly oppose any proposal of this nature, and take this position based on the findings, evidence and community concerns presented during the Citizens Jury.
Recommendation
SA Labor continues to acknowledge, respects and endorse the ALP National Platform on Nuclear Waste.

Electric vehicle charger station opened in Adelaide

South Australia’s first “Tesla supercharger” points for electric vehicles opened on 27 October on Franklin St between The Joinery and the new Bus station – “the start of a state-wide charging network the company promised as part of the deal to win the State Government’s “world’s largest battery” tender”.

Tesla’s Elon Musk included 50 charging stations as part of the negotiations to build the battery.

Stop Adani Day of Action – SA – Sat 7 Oct

Join AYCC and CLEAN and 350.org

On October 7th, Australia will see the BIGGEST ever Day of Action to#StopAdani! The federal government is currently considering giving a $1billion loan of taxpayer money to the Adani company’s dangerous coal mine. This project would destroy the Great Barrier Reef and wreck the climate, and does not have the consent of the Wangan & Jagalingou people, the traditional owners of the land.

In Adelaide, we’re hosting a community gathering where South Australians will come together to publicly show that we want the government to step up and rule out funding Adani.
We will meet on Henley beach, where students and community members will have created a stunning art installation, bringing the Great Barrier Reef rightto our own shores. This family friendly event will involve face-painting, kites and an opportunity to show the media how much the Australian community wants to #StopAdani

WHO: Everyone fired up to #StopAdani – no matter where you’re from!

WHAT: Art installation, face-painting, kites, a huge media photo opportunity

BRING: Friends, family, signs, sun protection

WEAR: Red – the #StopAdani colour!

WHEN: Saturday 7th October, 12-1pm

WHERE: Henley Beach Jetty, Seaview Rd, Henley Beach SA, 5022 (we will meet near the jetty- look for red shirts and stop adani signs!)
