Join AYCC at the Westpac AGM Fri 9 December

The Australian Youth Climate Coalition invite you to join them for an action outside the Westpac AGM at the Convention Centre on North Terrace at 9-10am Friday 9 December.

With Turnbull giving Adani a $1billion boost, it’s really important that we make sure out banks aren’t investing in the project, so we’re hoping to get a bit of a crowd there. Below is a bit of an outline of what the action will look like, hope to see you there!

Westpac are #climatehypocrites, and it’s time their shareholders knew it! Despite receiving awards for being “the world’s most sustainable bank”, and promising not to invest in projects that would take us over 2 degrees of global warming, Westpac has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in fossil fuels and refused to rule out investing in the Adani Carmichael coal mine in Queensland, putting our future at serious risk of dangerous global warming.

Join us for some street theatre on the morning of Westpac’s AGM, where we’ll be holding an award ceremony for the bank, with the award they really deserve, for being Australia’s biggest climate hypocrites. It’ll be a fun morning, and we’ll also be flyering and engaging with shareholders as they head into the AGM.

Rally: Dump the Dump Fri 2 Dec

The Dump is Dumped!

Last hurrah for the Dump – for this year anyway. Join us for some large-scale street theatre! (The more of you who come and bring friends, the larger the scale!)

Let’s make a really strong statement this coming Friday evening – tell Jay in no uncertain terms that “No” means “No – not now, not ever.” Tell him that his nuclear waste dump is indeed “dead and buried”. We will ceremonially, with all pomp and circumstance, consign it to the bin!

Friday 2nd December, 5.45 (for 6 o’clock start)
Regina McKenzie will speak on the Fed Govt’s Dump at Barndioota in the Flinders Ranges. The ACF has just pronounced Regina as a co-winner of this year’s Rawlinson Award for outstanding leadership in her efforts for Indigenous and environmental justice in her region.

Wear and bring all your anti-Dump clothing, placards, flags and banners, plus Govt propaganda to be binned. Drums and bodhrans would be good.

We will come together to celebrate the power of people standing collectively, to celebrate Country and our desire that it not be desecrated, and to ceremonially consign the Proposal, the Royal Commission report and all the government’s propaganda to history. (We’d like to burn it, but suspect the authorities wouldn’t be too happy with a fire on Parlt House steps. Instead we ask that you bring copies of the report and the Know Nuclear propaganda, and throw it into a yellowcake drum.)

Obviously, we know that the proposal is not really dead – Jay has just taken the heat out of the situation for now. We know:

  • the proposal is still on the table and there will be very strong forces pushing it behind the scenes;
  • the Government has accepted the RC recommendations to encourage the expansion of uranium exploration and mining in SA, and to promote further investigation into nuclear power;
  • the Federal Govt’s proposed dump at Barndioota is still on the agenda, despite the opposition of the Adnyamathanha people, and other local residents.

Film fundraiser: One Night the Moon
Saturday 3rd December 7pm Mercury Cinema Morphett St

Come along to the Mercury Cinema in Adelaide to see One Night the Moon, a film by Rachel Perkins shot in the Flinders Ranges on Adnyamathanha country.

This is a fundraiser event for the campaign to oppose a national nuclear waste dump at Barndioota in the Flinders Ranges.

Guest speakers: Adnyamathanha Traditional Owner Regina McKenzie from Yappala Station and Rob Webb from the Hawker community. Come and show your support and enjoy a night with the community on the front of Australia’s latest nuclear waste push.

Hosted by the Flinders Local Action Group (FLAG) and supported by Conservation SA.

SolarReserve has successfully financed and constructed more than US$1.8 billion of large scale solar projects worldwide, with development and long-term power contracts for 482 megawatts of solar projects. Daniel will discuss SolarReserve Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) with molten salt energy storage technology, its operational Crescent Dunes project and provide an update on SolarReserve’s plans to build the Aurora Solar Energy Project in Port Augusta, the first of a number of projects planned for South Australia.
