Stop Adani Day of Action – SA – Sat 7 Oct

On October 7th, Australia will see the BIGGEST ever Day of Action to#StopAdani! The federal government is currently considering giving a $1billion loan of taxpayer money to the Adani company’s dangerous coal mine. This project would destroy the Great Barrier Reef and wreck the climate, and does not have the consent of the Wangan & Jagalingou people, the traditional owners of the land.
In Adelaide, we’re hosting a community gathering where South Australians will come together to publicly show that we want the government to step up and rule out funding Adani.
We will meet on Henley beach, where students and community members will have created a stunning art installation, bringing the Great Barrier Reef rightto our own shores. This family friendly event will involve face-painting, kites and an opportunity to show the media how much the Australian community wants to #StopAdani

National nuclear strategy meeting in Melbourne 10-11 February
All campaigners are welcome to attend the national nuclear strategy meeting in Melbourne on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 February.
South Australian representatives are attending including Adnyamathanha women campaigning against the national nuclear waste dump proposal for the Flinders Ranges. Friends of the Earth Adelaide have contributed to the travel expenses of one of the women.
The meeting will cover campaigning around all aspects of the nuclear chain and nuclear weapons proliferation, with a focus on future actions.

Join AYCC at the Westpac AGM Fri 9 December
The Australian Youth Climate Coalition invite you to join them for an action outside the Westpac AGM at the Convention Centre on North Terrace at 9-10am Friday 9 December.
With Turnbull giving Adani a $1billion boost, it’s really important that we make sure out banks aren’t investing in the project, so we’re hoping to get a bit of a crowd there. Below is a bit of an outline of what the action will look like, hope to see you there!
Westpac are #climatehypocrites, and it’s time their shareholders knew it! Despite receiving awards for being “the world’s most sustainable bank”, and promising not to invest in projects that would take us over 2 degrees of global warming, Westpac has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in fossil fuels and refused to rule out investing in the Adani Carmichael coal mine in Queensland, putting our future at serious risk of dangerous global warming.
Join us for some street theatre on the morning of Westpac’s AGM, where we’ll be holding an award ceremony for the bank, with the award they really deserve, for being Australia’s biggest climate hypocrites. It’ll be a fun morning, and we’ll also be flyering and engaging with shareholders as they head into the AGM.

Important petition: Block the TPP legislation in the Senate
We don’t normally share petitions but this is an exception, calling on Labor, the Greens and Cross Benchers to block the TPP legislation in the Senate.
“The Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (or TPP) is a dangerous trade deal with the potential to destroy thousands of Australian jobs.
The deal was negotiated by Malcolm Turnbull behind closed doors and allows corporations to sue our government just for making laws in the public interest. The TPP risks our jobs, our health and our democracy.
We have to defeat the TPP because:
it allows corporations to sue Australia just for making laws in the public interest (like lowering the cost of medicines for the sick).
it will force Australia to take even more workers on dodgy visas, undermining our wages and conditions and allowing corporations to make a killing off the backs of exploited foreign workers.
it says it will protect workers and the environment but is vague and almost unenforceable.
We have to stop this corporate power grab –and we can.
Malcolm Turnbull doesn’t have the votes to ratify this dangerous deal if Labor, the Greens and the crossbench Senators unite to block it.
Sign the petition calling for all parties to vote down the TPP and to stand with Australians.
